My sketchbook - 2018

Hi !!!!

These are the drawings that I have made in the past few weeks.

This is a freehand mandala on A3 size cartridge sheet. I have used marker pens, water colour pencils for the mandala & have painted flowers using water colours.

I found this beautiful landscape on youtube channel & wanted to give it a try. .. This is how it has come out. If I compare it with the original it has quite many flaws , but still I am happy with the end result.

Do have a look & let me know your views on the above.

See you next time with another creative arty project :)

Have a lovely weekend !!!:)

Phad Painting - My new found love

Hi!!

In my endeavour to try something new I have been experimenting with traditional Rajasthani Painting - Phad painting.

Phad Painting is a religious style scroll painting practised in Rajasthan. This kind of painting is done on a long piece of cloth or canvas known as phad. The narratives of the folk deities of Rajasthan especially Pabuji & Devnarayan are depicted on these phad. Scale of the figures depend on the social status of the character in the story. Also in this kind of painting the characters face each other.

The cloth / phad is starched with rice water or flour and then it is rubbed with moonstone to impart stiffness to the same. After the rough sketch is drawn the artist fill it with colour moving from light colour to darker shade. Orange is used for body parts, for ornaments and general design on the clothing yellow colour is used, green for vegetation, brown for monuments, blue for water & red for clothing. Finally it is outlined with black colour that brings out the beauty & intricacies of the characters in the painting.

I have made these paintings on 10" x 12" sized canvas using acrylic colours First one is of Lord Ganesha & the second one is of Radha-Krishna. All these drawings are net inspired & am happy with the way it has come together.

I have tried to stay true to this traditional art as much as possible & I hope you enjoy them as much as I enjoyed making them. In case you have any suggestion on the same do let me know.

You can also follow me on Instagram for further updates.

Planning to explore Gond painting this week. Hopefully will be back soon with my new creation.

Till then by & take care !!!:)

Stocking /Nylon flowers

Hi !!!!

Happy Friday to all of you :)

Today I am sharing with you nylon or stocking flower bouquet with you.

My student Sanvi has made this for her father as a "Welcome Gift". It was a sheer joy making this as I was doing this after a long long time & it is always inspiring to teach kids as they are so enthusiastic and eager to learn something new.

I also did some bottle painting. This wine bottle has been lying with me for ages and I want to add some colour to it. So  I gave a base colour with glass colours and did dot painting with acrylics. This is how it looks now :) I am very happy with the outcome & I hope my hubby also feels the same .....

Do let me know what do you think of my projects :)

Till next time have a great weekend !!!:)

There are lot of things going on in my mind. Have to complete few crochet projects which have been lying unattended for long.I also want to learn new art forms like dot painting, gond style painting....... List is endless..... but don't know when will I get the time to make a head start in this direction :)) I think I need to take the "Time Management" thing more seriously... maybe then I would be able to manage my never ending projects more efficiently..

Till next time happy crafting :)

Happy Basant Panchami !!!

Hi!!!!

A very Happy Basant Panchami to all of you.

Today we worship Goddess Saraswati (goddess of knowledge, music, art & learning). Seated on white Lotus she symbolises light, knowledge & truth. Holding Veena(musical instrument) in her hand Goddess Saraswati reinforces the importance of music & rhythm in life. Her bahon (vehicle) is white swan which portrays purity and perfection and her ability to distinguish between good and evil.

Coming on to my WIPs I have just completed my needlework project.

Even though some of my stitches have not come out so clean but for the time being I am happy with the fact that I have finally finished the same. Here I have used long & short stitch, chain stitch, fishbone stitch & french knots. I have also added crochet pompom edging to the same.. courtesy Pinterest.

I am also working on this madhubani painting. Outlining is finished & now it needs colour. Hopefully I will share the complete  painting in my next blogpost.

Do let me know how it looks ???????

Take care and have a great week ahead :))

Hello 2017 !!!

Hello & A  Very Happy New Year to all my blogger friends!!:)

I hope this New Year brings in Happiness & Good Health for all.:))

2016 didn't end on a good note for me, as there was another death in my family:(. And I was not able to concentrate much on my wips.

I have just completed my fabric paintings on cushion cover which I started in Nov'16 . For details plz visit ( http://luvforcrafts.blogspot.in/2016/11/fabric-painting.html).

I also tried liquid embroidery to add a bit of variety. This pattern is internet inspired & still needs drying.

This is again liquid embroidery in geometrical pattern with decorative stones.

I also completed my Madhubani painting of Goddess Lakshmi Ji . I added few warli figures in the corner to give a fusion effect.

Doodling is my new passion these days. So whenever I have some time I try to practise the same. These are few samplers that I have tried :)

What do you think ???????  Do get back with your feedback.

Till next time T.A.T.A & take care :))

Warli Drawing

Hi !!!

This is a warli painting which I finished yesterday:). I had made this drawing keeping Janamashtami in mind, but due to time constraints I couldn't complete it.

I have done this on A4 size canvas pad using acrylics colours. This time I have been careful with the background colour &have painted it golden yellow using water colours and for the warli figures, have used red acrylics colour using 0 no. brush.

I think that this time around results are much better.

Let me know how it looks:)

Enjoy your Sunday:)

Key Holder Makeover

Hello ladies !!

Hope all of you are having a great weekend :)

I am coming back almost after a month & it feels so good :))

I haven't been able to do much on the creative front, as we have been busy shifting.... Leaving my old home has been physically tiring & emotionally draining. I have been living here for more than 12 years & it had almost become a part of me. Every room has its own  memories ....leaving them behind has not been easy for me.  I wish I could be more practical like my husband. He likes it here very much as it is more spacious as compared to our old ones.

We are still settling down here.  Still more cartons to unpack...... more places to fill..... yeah life is like this and you need to move on like my husband says.....

Best part of shifting is that you find lot of old things which you have totally forgotten about. One such finding is this old keyholder, & I decided to revamp it. Decided to go with madhubani art form as it involves use of dark bold colours.

Now its ready to be used:) I am happy with the outcome & I hope you also like it.

Am also working on a thread doily. Will give you the details in my next blog post.

Till next time happy crafting !!!!

A big thanks to all my readers for your lovely comments on my last post:).

This is how I innovated the bottle.

I don't know if it is quite visible to you, but on the front I have also added a branch with few flowers on it ( i can't seem to do without them:-)) Once the colours gets dried, I need to put a coat of clear varnish on it.

Next time I want to try bottle painting..... If any body has tried it earlier do let me know how it works.....

In my sketchbook I did flowers with coloured pencil shading

Finally.... with my first post in 2016

Hi !!!!!

Hope I am not too late to wish all my readers a very happy & healthy 2016 :-).

But my life has been such a roller coaster.....  with work, work & more work. First my younger son came down with viral and by the time he was okay I caught the virus. After suffering from fever for a few days, it was time for our family vacation which my husband had planned since Dec.......... so couldn't cancel it either:( ( which I seriously wanted to...) . For our little trip we drove down to Rani Khet, Uttarakhand. The journey was very taxing, as I was feeling very weak after the illness. So you can say the whole time I was there I was eating, sleeping & watching TV. We did go out to explore the nearby local mkts., temples..... but thats that, nothing much. I didn't click much, but this is the view from out hotel balcony.....

Isn't it beautiful  !!!! I so much wanted to enjoy the view with a hot cup of tea... but alas.... becoz of monkeys had to drop the idea.

After coming back, life went back to doing mundane chores...... again loads of pending work to do..... which got piled up during our absence. Even though I don't mind the hectic pace. In fact I love :) it just gets tiring sometimes.

This new year I also got a wonderful surprise, when my best friend from my school days contacted me through FB and from her I was able to trace  another school friend of mine. She is in kolkata right now & I hope to visit her soon....

On the craft front I have been moving at a snail's pace. Have not been able to complete my wips so far. Just managed to complete this crochet shawl

And did some cooking like gajar ka halwa

Choco chip muffins... looks delicious na .......

and some more sketching (these are all coloured pencil shading)

Do drop in  & share your views with me:)

Till next time enjoy :)
