Shell Craft

Hi !!!

Today I am going to share with you another craft item made out of shell which I made for my younger son. This is as I a mentioned in my previous blog post, for the X-mas carnival that they are having in their school.

This is an angel made out of shells. I got the tutorial for the same from

Dr.Sonia'sblog

http://cardsandschoolprojects.blogspot.in/search/label/Shell%20Craft

I have decorated the angel with golden colored beaded string and colorful decorative stones. On the forehead I have attached a colorful string of sitaras and for the wings and crown I have used foam sheet of white color.

I have used colored pencils to draw the facial features of the angel.

Do drop in with your comments as to how it looks.

Have a nice weekend........

Dark Chocolate Cake (egg less)

Hello everyone !!!

Hope you all had a nice weekend with friends and family. I had lots of fun this weekend as it was party time for us. On Saturday we had a birthday party at our common friends place and on Sunday we had a small get together at our place. So the weekend just flew by.Today is Monday and for me it is  the most hectic day not only because it the first day of the week but also because after two day bliss of not getting up early, just lazying around and no time clock to follow, it is difficult to get back to the every day routine. But from tomorrow everything will come back to normal.

As I told you we had a birthday party to attend and my host had requested me to get a cake for them. Since I had ran out of eggs, I decided to make a egg less Dark chocolate cake and here I would like to mention that my elder son agreed to help me out. This is again from Nita Mehta's Eggless Oven Recipes.

Preheat the oven at 180 0 C

Ingredients

Flour - 1 cup
1/2 cup - cornflour
1/4 cup - cocoa powder
1 1/2 tsp - baking powder
3/4 tsp - soda bi-carb
3/4 cup - butter
1 cup - powdered sugar
1 cup - cold milk
1/2 tsp - vanilla essence
20 gms - dark chocolate mixed with 4 tbsp milk.

Method

Sift maida, cornflour, cocoa powder, baking powder and soda bi-carb together. In  another bowl mix butter and sugar till fluffy. Slowly add the flour mixture and milk slowly. Melt the chocolate in warm milk and add it to the batter. Mix well.
Bake it for 30-35 min in a 7-8" dia. cake tin.

Serve it warm with hot chocolate sauce.

Do try out the recipe and and let me know how you liked it.

My younger son is having a carnival in his school for which their teacher has asked them to make craft items using shells. So he has decorated this photo frame with colored shells and he wanted me to share the pictures of the same with you guys. He also asked me specifically to mention that he has done it alone without my assistance. Only the idea is mine.  The red paper he has used to cover the center is a bit crumpled, but I didn't feel like replacing with other and hv clicked the pictures as it is.

He has submitted this today and his teacher was happy. Now he is so excited  that he wants me to make another craft item using shells. Now I am thinking what to make. Maybe I will make an angel which Dr Sonia has been kind enough to share in her blog http://cardsandschoolprojects.blogspot.in/. With this note I would like to welcome and thank her and Sravani Gopal of http://sravanigopal.blogspot.in/ for joining me.

Thanks for visiting my page !!!!

Keep smiling .......

Healthy Fruit & Nut cake (egg less)

Hi Ladies !!!!!!

Every body seems busy with Diwali cleaning, shopping etc. etc.  After Dusshera hullabaloo, now its time for festival of lights, Diwali.

Delhi is decked up with colorful lights.Roads bustling with heavy traffic. People carrying gifts, sweets for the loved ones. You can hear the sound of firecrackers even though annoying, but still an integral part of Diwali celebrations.

What with namakparas, sweets, gujiyas everywhere I decided to make something sweet, but healthy for my kids. This is a Fruit and nut cake which people make during Christmas, but I decided to give it a try anyways. I got the recipe from the net  and made some variations to it. The first time, the cake turned out to be a bit pasty but second time I got it right ( that's what my kids said). They liked it very much so I believe the changes have clicked and gone well.

Method

Maida - 1 cup
oats - 3/4 cup
Muiselli - 3/4 cup
Fresh fruits - 1 cup finely chopped
(I used banana,apple and kiwi)
Dry fruits - 1 cup
Soda bicarb - 1 tsp
Baking powder - 1 tsp
Oil - 1/2 cup
Mixed fruit juice - 1 cup ( mix more if the batter is too thick)
Sugar - 1 cup
Cinnamon powder - 1/2 tsp or more according to your taste
Rum - 2 tbsp (optional)
Nutmeg powder - 1/2 tsp

Mix oil and sugar. After that fold in the dry stuff and then add the juice. Lastly add the fruits. Grease 10" - 11" mould properly and pour in the mixture. Bake it for 50-60 min at 180 C Pre-H oven.

Note - Since this is a fruit and nut cake it is going to be a dense cake and as I have used fresh fruits, instead of dried ones it will be more moist. Serve it warm preferably with ice-cream.

Have fun and happy eating !!!!
