I had a gala time with my friends and family. In fact, I really enjoyed the hectic schedule of visiting pandals in different places, giving pushpanjali, eating bhog and lots and lots of sweets.

I felt really saddened when all these festivities and gaiety came to an end and we had to bid adieu to Maa Durga yet, before leaving she reminded us of the power of women and celebrating womanhood.

Here's hoping that people will recognize the vitality of respecting women in all the spheres of life........................!

Wishing you all সভ বিজ্জয়া (shubho bijoya)! to all my readers and followers !!!!

Keep smiling and do keep writing to me.

Coconut Ladoos

Hi !!!

Today's  recipe in my festive food series is Coconut ladoos or Narkel Naadu as we call it in Bangla. This is a very simple dish, with very few ingredients. My mother used to make them regularly and stored them in airtight containers. I don't make them quite often, as my kids prefer baked items, like cake, muffins etc. But this time I hv decided to try out all the bengali sweets at home.

Ingredients

Milk : 1/2 cup
coconut : 2 1/2 cup
Sugar : 1 1/2 cup approx. (can add more if u like it too sweet)
Cardamom powder 1/2 tsp (optional)

Method :

Pour the milk in a pan. Add cardamom powder to it  and let it boil. Keep aside 5-6 tbsp of grated coconut for rolling purpose. Once the milk starts to boil add the coconut (shredded) into it. Mix it properly. Now  add sugar and cook it on medium heat till the mixture starts leaving the sides.Remove from the heat and let it cool down a bit. Now make small size balls from this mixture and roll it on the shredded coconut. Delicious ladoos are ready to eat!

For variation you can also insert kishmish/finely chopped almonds in the ladoos.

Do try it and let me know how it turned out.

Happy cooking !!!

Egg less Suji Cupcakes

Hi everyone !!!

Well, Durga Puja is just at the doorsteps and I can't tell you  how much excited I am. This is something that we Bengalis wait for all thru the year since this is the longest (4 days) puja we have. Maa Durga not only brings happiness & joy but also brings colorful pandals, new clothes, mouthwatering dishes, feasts, dance,  music everything that depicts our culture.

To enhance the festivity mood I will be sharing with you some sweet dishes inculding few bengali traditional dishes like payesh, sandesh etc. So the first dish on the line is Egg less Suji cupcakes which I made for my kids. I had picked up the notes from a cookery show on TV.

Ingredients ( makes 12 nos, but may vary according to the sz of the moulds)

1 1/2 cup refined flour
2 tbsp suji
150 gms butter
3/4 cup powdered sugar ( I used 1 cup as my kids luv more sweet)
5 tbsp milk powder
2 tbsp cornflour
1tsp baking powder
1 tsp soda bicarb
1 tbsp milk
1/4 cup buttermilk

Method

Pre-heat the oven at 180C

Mix the butter and powdered sugar till fluffy and light. Now gradually add the milk powder and mix it properly. Now add suji and again mix. In a separate bowl sift the flour, cornflour, baking powder and soda bicarb together and add to the mixture. Bring in the buttermilk and then again mix.Lastly add milk and the check the consistency. In case the mixture is too thick, then you can add more milk.

Pour the mixture into greased moulds/muffin tins/paper cups. Tap them lightly and level the batter. Bake  them for 30 min . De-mould  after cooling. Delicious cupcakes are ready to eat.

Embroidery work on Cushion Covers

Hi friends !!!

This is in continuation to my previous blog post whereby I had shared few pics of embroidery work on cushion covers. I have done four more covers. So now my set of six covers is complete.. I have tried different designs on all of them trying to incorporate as many stitches as I could like satin, chain, long & short, outline stitch etc.

The designs that you can see below are the same that I shared with you previously. Unfortunately, the picture seems blurred.  In case you have not seen them, you can visit my previous blog post to have a clearer view of the same.

Thanks for visiting my space. Will be back with some more craft projects.

Till then keep smiling.

Crochet Purse

Hi Ladies !!

Hope you guys are enjoying your Sunday. Well for me, weekend is the time which I dread most. Even though I luv the fact the kids and hubby dear are at home, but the fact that I have to toil for hours preparing lavish breakfast, lunch dinner + kids homework +forcing them to go outside and play instead of spending uncountable hours on TV/Video Games etc makes it a very tedious and boring for me. In fact I have literally hauled off my son from  the computer chair to do this blog post. Durga puja is also around the corner, and I am planning a complete makeover for my home. A far fetched dream, but lets see how it goes. Wish me luck for that.

Today is 2nd Oct, Gandhi Jayanti and i hope world becomes a more better and peaceful place to live. So cheers to peace and non-violence.

Here are the few pics of my WIP - a  crochet purse. I am using silk yarns of pink and black color and 7 no crochet hook for this project. I picked up this design from http://marumin64.blogspot.in/

Well my computer time is over as my son is getting impatient now as he needs the computer to continue with his game.

Well do write to me

Bye!!!!
