Shell Craft

Hi !!!

Today I am going to share with you another craft item made out of shell which I made for my younger son. This is as I a mentioned in my previous blog post, for the X-mas carnival that they are having in their school.

This is an angel made out of shells. I got the tutorial for the same from

Dr.Sonia'sblog

http://cardsandschoolprojects.blogspot.in/search/label/Shell%20Craft

I have decorated the angel with golden colored beaded string and colorful decorative stones. On the forehead I have attached a colorful string of sitaras and for the wings and crown I have used foam sheet of white color.

I have used colored pencils to draw the facial features of the angel.

Do drop in with your comments as to how it looks.

Have a nice weekend........

Dark Chocolate Cake (egg less)

Hello everyone !!!

Hope you all had a nice weekend with friends and family. I had lots of fun this weekend as it was party time for us. On Saturday we had a birthday party at our common friends place and on Sunday we had a small get together at our place. So the weekend just flew by.Today is Monday and for me it is  the most hectic day not only because it the first day of the week but also because after two day bliss of not getting up early, just lazying around and no time clock to follow, it is difficult to get back to the every day routine. But from tomorrow everything will come back to normal.

As I told you we had a birthday party to attend and my host had requested me to get a cake for them. Since I had ran out of eggs, I decided to make a egg less Dark chocolate cake and here I would like to mention that my elder son agreed to help me out. This is again from Nita Mehta's Eggless Oven Recipes.

Preheat the oven at 180 0 C

Ingredients

Flour - 1 cup
1/2 cup - cornflour
1/4 cup - cocoa powder
1 1/2 tsp - baking powder
3/4 tsp - soda bi-carb
3/4 cup - butter
1 cup - powdered sugar
1 cup - cold milk
1/2 tsp - vanilla essence
20 gms - dark chocolate mixed with 4 tbsp milk.

Method

Sift maida, cornflour, cocoa powder, baking powder and soda bi-carb together. In  another bowl mix butter and sugar till fluffy. Slowly add the flour mixture and milk slowly. Melt the chocolate in warm milk and add it to the batter. Mix well.
Bake it for 30-35 min in a 7-8" dia. cake tin.

Serve it warm with hot chocolate sauce.

Do try out the recipe and and let me know how you liked it.

My younger son is having a carnival in his school for which their teacher has asked them to make craft items using shells. So he has decorated this photo frame with colored shells and he wanted me to share the pictures of the same with you guys. He also asked me specifically to mention that he has done it alone without my assistance. Only the idea is mine.  The red paper he has used to cover the center is a bit crumpled, but I didn't feel like replacing with other and hv clicked the pictures as it is.

He has submitted this today and his teacher was happy. Now he is so excited  that he wants me to make another craft item using shells. Now I am thinking what to make. Maybe I will make an angel which Dr Sonia has been kind enough to share in her blog http://cardsandschoolprojects.blogspot.in/. With this note I would like to welcome and thank her and Sravani Gopal of http://sravanigopal.blogspot.in/ for joining me.

Thanks for visiting my page !!!!

Healthy Fruit & Nut cake (egg less)

Hi Ladies !!!!!!

Every body seems busy with Diwali cleaning, shopping etc. etc.  After Dusshera hullabaloo, now its time for festival of lights, Diwali.

Delhi is decked up with colorful lights.Roads bustling with heavy traffic. People carrying gifts, sweets for the loved ones. You can hear the sound of firecrackers even though annoying, but still an integral part of Diwali celebrations.

What with namakparas, sweets, gujiyas everywhere I decided to make something sweet, but healthy for my kids. This is a Fruit and nut cake which people make during Christmas, but I decided to give it a try anyways. I got the recipe from the net  and made some variations to it. The first time, the cake turned out to be a bit pasty but second time I got it right ( that's what my kids said). They liked it very much so I believe the changes have clicked and gone well.

Method

Maida - 1 cup
oats - 3/4 cup
Muiselli - 3/4 cup
Fresh fruits - 1 cup finely chopped
(I used banana,apple and kiwi)
Dry fruits - 1 cup
Soda bicarb - 1 tsp
Baking powder - 1 tsp
Oil - 1/2 cup
Mixed fruit juice - 1 cup ( mix more if the batter is too thick)
Sugar - 1 cup
Cinnamon powder - 1/2 tsp or more according to your taste
Rum - 2 tbsp (optional)
Nutmeg powder - 1/2 tsp

Mix oil and sugar. After that fold in the dry stuff and then add the juice. Lastly add the fruits. Grease 10" - 11" mould properly and pour in the mixture. Bake it for 50-60 min at 180 C Pre-H oven.

Note - Since this is a fruit and nut cake it is going to be a dense cake and as I have used fresh fruits, instead of dried ones it will be more moist. Serve it warm preferably with ice-cream.

Have fun and happy eating !!!!

Crochet handy purse/pouch

Hi ........

How are you ??? I hope you all  are busy with your respective hobby projects.

Here in Delhi, the sun has lost its sunshine, and is replaced by a foggy / dusty layer which is giving the city a gloomy look. Winter has started to seep in slowly especially the morning and evenings.I am still suffering from Puja hangover. Doing nothing and lazing around has become part of me.. There are so many things going on in my mind, but they are not taking a definite shape. So many incomplete projects are lying there but even after trying so hard I am not able to finish them. Yeah I know this is a very lame  excuse but honestly I feel my crafty indulgence have taken a backseat and I am happy doing nothing and cribbing about not being able to do so.

This small crochet pouch which I had started long before Puja,  has been in the pipeline for quite some time now and after much ado I was able to complete it today. This is a handy pouch made for keeping makeup items like kajal, lipstick, etc or I can simply use it as a money purse. I have used silk threads for these -  pink and black. For the design pls click here

Even though I had clicked more pics of the same, but due to some computer problem I am not able to upload them properly. I have been trying fr an hour now, but due to my limited IT knowledge I have failed miserably. I will try reloading them tomorrow and update my post, till then you guys will have to do with one pic only. Extremely soooorrry for the same.

Thanks for visiting my page.......

Bye and good night !!!!

Happy Dusshera !!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Hello everyone !

I hope you enjoyed during Durga Puja  as much as I did . These are few pics of the Durga Pratima which I would like to share with you.

Faridabad Kali Bari Society Sec-21D

Charmwood Village, Faridabad
This was based on the theme of Avatar Movie

I had a gala time with my friends and family. In fact, I really enjoyed the hectic schedule of visiting pandals in different places, giving pushpanjali, eating bhog and lots and lots of sweets.

I felt really saddened when all these festivities and gaiety came to an end and we had to bid adieu to Maa Durga yet, before leaving she reminded us of the power of women and celebrating womanhood.

Here's hoping that people will recognize the vitality of respecting women in all the spheres of life........................!

Wishing you all সভ বিজ্জয়া (shubho bijoya)! to all my readers and followers !!!!

Coconut Ladoos

Hi !!!

Today's  recipe in my festive food series is Coconut ladoos or Narkel Naadu as we call it in Bangla. This is a very simple dish, with very few ingredients. My mother used to make them regularly and stored them in airtight containers. I don't make them quite often, as my kids prefer baked items, like cake, muffins etc. But this time I hv decided to try out all the bengali sweets at home.

Ingredients

Milk : 1/2 cup
coconut : 2 1/2 cup
Sugar : 1 1/2 cup approx. (can add more if u like it too sweet)
Cardamom powder 1/2 tsp (optional)

Method :

Pour the milk in a pan. Add cardamom powder to it  and let it boil. Keep aside 5-6 tbsp of grated coconut for rolling purpose. Once the milk starts to boil add the coconut (shredded) into it. Mix it properly. Now  add sugar and cook it on medium heat till the mixture starts leaving the sides.Remove from the heat and let it cool down a bit. Now make small size balls from this mixture and roll it on the shredded coconut. Delicious ladoos are ready to eat!

For variation you can also insert kishmish/finely chopped almonds in the ladoos.

Do try it and let me know how it turned out.

Happy cooking !!!

Egg less Suji Cupcakes

Hi everyone !!!

Well, Durga Puja is just at the doorsteps and I can't tell you  how much excited I am. This is something that we Bengalis wait for all thru the year since this is the longest (4 days) puja we have. Maa Durga not only brings happiness & joy but also brings colorful pandals, new clothes, mouthwatering dishes, feasts, dance,  music everything that depicts our culture.

To enhance the festivity mood I will be sharing with you some sweet dishes inculding few bengali traditional dishes like payesh, sandesh etc. So the first dish on the line is Egg less Suji cupcakes which I made for my kids. I had picked up the notes from a cookery show on TV.

Ingredients ( makes 12 nos, but may vary according to the sz of the moulds)

1 1/2 cup refined flour
2 tbsp suji
150 gms butter
3/4 cup powdered sugar ( I used 1 cup as my kids luv more sweet)
5 tbsp milk powder
2 tbsp cornflour
1tsp baking powder
1 tsp soda bicarb
1 tbsp milk
1/4 cup buttermilk

Method

Pre-heat the oven at 180C

Mix the butter and powdered sugar till fluffy and light. Now gradually add the milk powder and mix it properly. Now add suji and again mix. In a separate bowl sift the flour, cornflour, baking powder and soda bicarb together and add to the mixture. Bring in the buttermilk and then again mix.Lastly add milk and the check the consistency. In case the mixture is too thick, then you can add more milk.

Pour the mixture into greased moulds/muffin tins/paper cups. Tap them lightly and level the batter. Bake  them for 30 min . De-mould  after cooling. Delicious cupcakes are ready to eat.

Crochet Purse

Hi Ladies !!

Hope you guys are enjoying your Sunday. Well for me, weekend is the time which I dread most. Even though I luv the fact the kids and hubby dear are at home, but the fact that I have to toil for hours preparing lavish breakfast, lunch dinner + kids homework +forcing them to go outside and play instead of spending uncountable hours on TV/Video Games etc makes it a very tedious and boring for me. In fact I have literally hauled off my son from  the computer chair to do this blog post. Durga puja is also around the corner, and I am planning a complete makeover for my home. A far fetched dream, but lets see how it goes. Wish me luck for that.

Today is 2nd Oct, Gandhi Jayanti and i hope world becomes a more better and peaceful place to live. So cheers to peace and non-violence.

Here are the few pics of my WIP - a  crochet purse. I am using silk yarns of pink and black color and 7 no crochet hook for this project. I picked up this design from http://marumin64.blogspot.in/

Well my computer time is over as my son is getting impatient now as he needs the computer to continue with his game.

Well do write to me

Bye!!!!

Birthday Cake

Hi Ladies !!!!

Yesterday was my elder son (Moksh's)  Bday. He turned 13 and to celebrate the occasion I decided to bake a cake with proper decoration and all. Nothing unusual about baking a cake, as I  do it every time, but, making an icing topping and decorating it with the same is something which I tried for the very first time.

Since Thursday is a no non-veg day, I decided to make a egg less Lemon Cake. I picked up this recipe from, Nita Mehta's Eggless Oven Recipes and this is how it turned out.

Front side

Back side

After decoration

Even though the kids and his friends showed appreciation, but I somehow felt that covering the lemon icing with chocolate shavings was a mistake. Because  chocolate and lemon does not  quite blend together. Instead of chocolate if  I would have sprinkled some shavings of lemon rind and replaced the strawberries with sweetened lemon wedges, I think the whole dish would have come together quite beautifully. Well, cooking is experimenting with new things and I think this is how you learn.

Have you ever experienced something like this????????

Do write in. I wud like to hear from you.

Have a nice day !!!!!

Embroidery Work

Hi !!!

Today I am going to share with you my first embroidery project.

For the outline I have used black beads.

Though the project was a bit huge & tiresome for a novice like me, but I immensely enjoyed making it. For  the embroidery stitches I refered to Mary Corbet's http://www.needlenthread.com/. She has detailed info./videos on various stitches which makes learning quite simpler.

Thanks for stopping by and do comment on my project.

Take Care !!

Craft items from abroad

Hi !!!!!

This last week has not been quite good for me. Reason, I was supposed to get my pack of crochet yarns, which I had ordered online from Pradhan Embroidery Stores, Mumbai. Unfortunately, since the store uses resgistered post to deliver the goods, it seems somebody took out half of my stuff from the package. So I got only 30% of what I ordered, becoz of which I was not feeling so good. Though I have intimated the store about the same, but the matter is in pause mode at the moment.

But yesterday I received a very bigggggggggg  baggage of craft goodies from my dear friend, Teresa from Canada.Wow !!! it felt so good, to just go thru the stuff. I felt like a kid going thru the chocolate and toy boxes. This is acutally a Thank U Reward for the crochet bag and a SRE heart  I had sent her.

The package includes crochet threads, matte pieces of various colors, a whole bunch of silk ribbons, decorative items, like leaves, beads, needles etc. She also sent me few books on crafts.

Wooh !!! so many things, so many projects that I can do now. I feeling good already.

Thank u so very much Teresa. I don't have enough words to thank u. But I still would like to say THANK U VERY MUCH.
