Fabric Painting

Hi !!!!

A lot has been happening since I did my last blog post. Even though I have been posting regular updates on my fb page & Instagram, blogging seems to have lagged behind.

I did explore fabric painting, but the outcome unfortunately was not very satisfying. This is how it looks. As you can see the painting doesn't have a smooth finish.

This is because the cushion cover cloth is not purely cotton but a mix of silk & cotton  & when I started to paint,  the cloth absorbed the paint , consequently  I had to put 2-3 coats.  This made the whole process quite tedious and frustrating. Wrong assessment on my part :) I should have done a little test trial, but now I can't undo it, & I have to paint the remaining four covers... Will update you in my next blog post.

These are few watercolour sketches which I practised (courtesy youtube). Hope you will like them

Currently I am working on this Madhubani drawing of Goddess Lakshmi.......

Till next time enjoy & have a crafty weekend:))

Shubho Shashti ......

Hello everybody !!!

Thank you for your comments and sharing your experiences with me & encouraging me to move on.. It also made me realise that I am not the only one.......

Durga Puja festivities has begun & today's shashti. Tomorrow onwards puja with start at full swing. For me Durga puja is synonymous for khichuri bhog, bangla music & pandal hopping.....

Inspired by the spirit of this festival I painted Maa Durga in mithila art form. This time I have attempted something different and have used two colours only i.e red & black. The original plan was to go with monochrome (as I had mentioned in my previous blog post), but then I changed my mind and decided to incorporate red color also :)) Earlier I had sketched a more colourful goddess durga with coloured pencil (see HERE) .

I hope you like my interpretation.

Once the puja celebrations are over I plan to complete my crochet wips. I also plan to brush up my painting skills on fabric. What are yours ??:)

Short lived creativity :((

Hello !!!!

When I started to write this blog post I was very excited as after days of hard work I had finished my bottle painting.

This is the first time I had tried bottle painting... thanks to Shashwatee Raut's (http://whencreativejuicesflow.blogspot.in/) DIY tutorial on the same. In case you are looking for innovative ideas on recycling & reuse then her blog is an ideal place to visit.:)

I chose phad painting (traditional painting of Rajasthan) to decorate my bottle and this is how it came out...

It just needed a coat of varnish and was ready to become  a part of my home decor..... but oooooooh my student's mother who had come to pick her daughter broke my bottle. It happened so fast....... in a fraction of second my bottle was lying scattered on the floor......:((( & now this is how it looks.

I am feeling so so very disappointing ........ Has anyone experienced this kind of incidence ????? Do share it .... will help me feel a bit better :)

I have nothing else to share,  only this pencil shading work which I did last week. Even though I have already shared it in Instagram, but I wanted to share it with my readers.

Do let me know how it looks......

Durga puja is just round the corner & I am planning to paint Maa in monochrome using madhubani art form.  My crochet runner is also lying untouched. Lots of things are going in my mind.... hopefully would be able to finish them all.....

Till next time take care and have a nice day !!!!

Warli Drawing

Hi !!!

This is a warli painting which I finished yesterday:). I had made this drawing keeping Janamashtami in mind, but due to time constraints I couldn't complete it.

I have done this on A4 size canvas pad using acrylics colours. This time I have been careful with the background colour &have painted it golden yellow using water colours and for the warli figures, have used red acrylics colour using 0 no. brush.

I think that this time around results are much better.

Let me know how it looks:)

Enjoy your Sunday:)

Playing with stitches ......

Hello!!!

Thank you all for your lovely comments / feedback on my previous blog post. Glad to know that you liked my little experiment with traditional art forms. I plan to take out some more time for painting in coming days.

Recently, I found these beautiful decorative embroidery hoops in my craft stash. So I decided to do some needlework for a change. A bit risky for my patience level..:))) still went ahead with it. Since I didn't want to do my project using regular stitches, I indulged myself with few Brazilian Embroidery patterns. Here I must mention that I don't consider myself very good in this, but in terms of learning something new I think I have done OK......

In this one I have made roses using bullion stitch and  leaves using fly stitch.

In the other one, I have incorporated various stitches... like for the flower I have used picot stitch, french knot for the centre of the flower, lazy daisy for the leaves and few bullion stitches for the buds. For the border I have combined chain stitch with buttonhole stitch & overlapped it with lazy daisy stitch.

All these patterns are inspired from Pinterest, Mary Corbets http://www.needlenthread.com/ , http://rosaliewakefield-millefiori.blogspot.in/ & few youtube videos.

Please drop in with your comments on the above....

Have a great week ahead :) and A very Happy Independence Day to all you lovely ladies !!

My Sketchbook

Hi!!!

Sharing with you these two paintings which I did on leftover handmade sheets.

In this one I  have tried to create fusion between madhubani & warli art forms..I have used madhubani borders and have drawn the sun in warli form accompanied with few warli figures. I have tried this before & you can find it HERE.

The second  is a proper warli painting but it didn't turn out exactly what I had envisioned. So I am feeling a bit disappointed. Will try to do better next time :))

Which one do you like the most ???? Let me know your opinion :)

Till next time enjoy & have a great weekend :)

Doily

Hi !!!

Today I am sharing this oval shaped crochet doily with you.

This is basically made by joining two halves and then finished off with a fine edging using trebles & picot stitch.

For this I have used a 10 sized crochet steel hook and  Red Heart Crochet Cotton.

You can find the pattern HERE.

After completing the doily I found it a wee bit simple .....so I added these poppy flowers (tutorial for the same can be found in youtube) to give it more colour.

I hope you like it as much as I do.

I would like to hear from you on the above project.

Till next time happy crafting !!!!:)

Key Holder Makeover

Hello ladies !!

Hope all of you are having a great weekend :)

I am coming back almost after a month & it feels so good :))

I haven't been able to do much on the creative front, as we have been busy shifting.... Leaving my old home has been physically tiring & emotionally draining. I have been living here for more than 12 years & it had almost become a part of me. Every room has its own  memories ....leaving them behind has not been easy for me.  I wish I could be more practical like my husband. He likes it here very much as it is more spacious as compared to our old ones.

We are still settling down here.  Still more cartons to unpack...... more places to fill..... yeah life is like this and you need to move on like my husband says.....

Best part of shifting is that you find lot of old things which you have totally forgotten about. One such finding is this old keyholder, & I decided to revamp it. Decided to go with madhubani art form as it involves use of dark bold colours.

Now its ready to be used:) I am happy with the outcome & I hope you also like it.

Am also working on a thread doily. Will give you the details in my next blog post.

Till next time happy crafting !!!!

Crochet bag

Hi !!!

My crochet bag is finally complete :) Have used purse thread & hook size pony 10G size.

My original plan was to  make a sling bag,  but it already felt too bulky so I decided to stop after 11 rounds and after adding a border changed it into a small clutch bag. Now I just need to attach zipper & liner to the same.

I hope you will all like it . Will see you next time with another crafty project.

Thanks for dropping by & have a nice day !!!:)

Another bottle makeover ........

Hi !!!!

I am back with another bottle makeover. This time I have tried to recycle coffee bottle.  Initially, when I started this project I had something else in mind, but by the time I was thru I ended up with a different look..... and this is what I made :)

Before

After

a replica of Nesting Doll  / Russian Doll :)

Also called matryoshka doll,  refers to a set of wooden dolls in decreasing size placed one inside another. These dolls were first carved by Vasily Zvyozdochkin in 1890 and was designed by Sergey Malyutin.
